PRE-OP APPOINTMENT
The pre-op appointment is essential.
The surgeon must evaluate the local situation and indicate the type of operation to be performed. The aspects which can be corrected by the operation and which will remain unaltered will be explained. The surgeon and the patient must discuss the objectives, limits and expectations of the operation.
The doctor must know the patient's health conditions in particular regarding allergies, cardiovascular illnesses, hormonal and above all thyroid disorders and eye diseases. Some diseases may be a temporary or definitive contraindication for the operation.
The patient must know what medicines are to be taken regularly (Asprin and anticoagulants), if glasses or contact lenses are used.
Before the operation a hematochemical test, and possibly an optician's check-up, where eye pressure must be measured, must be performed.
