GENERAL INFORMATION
Abdominoplasty consists in removing excess fat and skin folds from the middle and lower abdomen. It is performed not merely to reduce weight, but to firm the abdominal wall and improve the aspect of a prominent abdomen.
Diet and exercise alone may not produce the same results since this problem is often accompanied by relaxed abdominal muscles and a weakened abdominal wall. When possible, stretch marks and excess skin is removed, however the stretch marks on the remaining skin of the abdomen will only be improved, not eliminated. The operation will leave a permanent scar which, depending on the type of procedure, may stretch from one side to the other.
Abdominoplasty is an extensive operation and is generally performed in the operating theatre with inpatient stay. It may be performed along with an abdominal liposuction, and generally requires an inpatient stay of 1-3 days.
